Don't Mixed Different Fish Species In A Tank Before You Read This!!

Winter is here, and it's time to use our heating rods and warm up the water in the fish tank. That's right, in our usual process of raising ornamental fish, the temperature is too low, so we must warm the water in the fish tank. But after all, the heating rod has relatively large power and consumes more electricity. So some aquarists will polyculture the fish in each tank. Then, heat up in the same fish tank, which can significantly save power consumption. So what this article is sharing with you is what we need to pay attention to during the polyculture process? How to achieve reasonable polyculture.

First of all, I have to say that polyculture is a technical job, not simply putting different fish species in a tank. Because various fish, their habits, including the degree of preference for water quality, are different. If you have practised the technique of polyculture, you can be regarded as an expert on aquarium fish keeping! In other words, polyculture is a compulsory course for the expert of fish keeping.

The first polyculture criterion

Then the first principle of polyculture is that ornamental fish from different origins should not be mixed. Because even the viewing and habits of the exact origin or the preference for water quality may be different, let alone from different sources. Regardless of the various water quality preferences, they may attack each other and even cause death, which is not worth the gain.

The second polyculture criterion

The second rule of polyculture is SHould not mix Tropicana fish with cold-water fish or temperate fish. For example, goldfish and koi fish are mild fish. They can adapt to relatively low temperatures, and the water temperature is less than ten degrees without any problem. However, the water temperature should be between 15 degrees and 20 degrees. But for tropical fish, the most suitable water temperature is 22°C to 24°C. And the habits of the two are different. Some goldfish grow faster. If they are mixed, they may accidentally eat some small tropical fish. So cannot raise this one together anyway. Everyone must remember that if there are tropical fish or goldfish, koi fish in the family, they still have to be separated.

The third polyculture criterion

The third rule of polyculture is to provide adequate shelter. These shelters can be dense aquatic plants or some driftwood or stones. Because this can give some weaker fish in the aquarium a place to hide and provide them with a sense of security; otherwise, they will not eat if they are too nervous. Fish have their way of communicating in the water. If there are enough shelters, they can well divide their territories. If the territories are just divided into non-aggression, there will be peace in the water. If there are not enough shelters, the strong fish may take most of the waters as their territory, and the weak are often bullied. Especially the cichlids' territorial awareness is very strong; if you put another fish with cichlids, you should pay attention.

The above is to help you summarize the three points. What should we pay attention to during the fish mixing process? If the family keeps some small tropical ornamental fishes, mixing them and then heating them together in winter is okay. But if the size is too big, don't do this, because big fish will eat small fish. Finally, I hope that everyone's fish can survive the winter safely.
